Rickus started guiding straight after High School where he did his FGASA Level 1 and Level 2 successfully as well as completed his Trailsguide – Theory and Practical assessments at Entabeni Safari Conservancy.
After obtaining his Diploma in Nature Guiding he started working in the lodges at Entabeni. After a couple years of guiding he became the Senior Ranger and later the Head Ranger where he was in charge of Lakeside, Kingfisher (5*) and Eagles Nest Lodges with a team of 12 guides.
After reaching his goals at Entabeni, gaining the relevant knowledge, skills and qualifications, he then started working for Drifters Adventours as full time Overland Guide conducting overland adventure tours extensively throughout Southern and East Africa with groups of up to 18 individuals, on anything from a 5 day to a 24 day tour. These trips no doubt teaches you a whole new set of skills.
Being a professional safari field guide and wildlife lover, he is also a very keen photographer. His passion for wildlife and being amongst nature has led him in to the career he has had for the last ten years, taking guests on wild adventures as well as embarking on his own explorations, with Uganda being a highlight where he was able to spend time with the wild mountain gorillas and have the opportunity to photograph them.
Rickus loves nothing more than heading out to the African bush, pitching up a tent, taking a group of excited visitors out to find wildlife and then cooking up a feast at the end of the day.
Rickus started photographing wildlife and the bush as a hobby after getting his first digital slr camera in 2012. Since then the camera has never left his side and his photographs are a record of the incredible journey’s he has been on whilst guiding and travelling.
Guiding for Drifters roughly 4 years, he started focusing his attention more towards the marketing side of things of which Rickus then became full time Marketing Assistant with Drifters Adventours.
Focusing his travels further abroad to Europe and Scandinavia on marketing trips and travel shows, he soon realized the potential and opportunities to allow guests traveling to Africa, to have the most amazing experience and holidays out there.
Launching Junglers Adventure Tours in 2018 is a dream come true for Rickus. By branching out into his own company he looks forward to being able to share his passions and his knowledge with others and having the chance to give back to visitors some of the experiences he has had in his lifetime and lead them to creating their own memories.
